Ever wanted to stand on the grid?

I know it sounds clichéd but I am really looking forward to racing this weekend. I’m always excited for the race weekend, but I think this year having a competitive car has really motivated me further.

This weekend in Perth is a chance for me to continue to improve, put down fast times, make it into the final qualifying session and push for a top 10 finish.

As I said there is a different feeling within the team and I know I am able to fight out races in my car. Everything is coming together, we have a good team who are happy and the two mechanics on my car who are both in their second year have really stepped up and helped me out a lot.

As for competing with Cameron I think we have done similar times, except for Eastern Creek where we went for something different in my car and it proved to be the wrong way to set the car up.

This weekend is also a chance for me to interact with the great fans who come out to Barbagallo. I find WA fans get right behind the event and there is always a huge line for them to get in. As a note for the fans, when you do get in head into the BigPond tent in Merchandise Alley for your chance to win some time on the grid and in our garage during the races.

This weekend could be one of our last races at the circuit but I hope it’s not. I don’t understand why everyone seems to be pushing for street races everywhere. They are not any better than races held on a circuit and variety is important to our series.

We already have street races in Adelaide, the Gold Coast, the Grand Prix, Hamilton and apparently Townsville will be one.

I know a lot of people will say Bathurst is a street circuit, but to me it’s not just a street circuit. It’s an event and the real mecca of motorsport in this country.

I really like the layout at Barbagallo. There are only a few places to pass but they do provide good opportunities.

At home Mish is coming along well and we have kitted out ‘Nacho’s’ room.

I want to thank Sof who is the son of a friend of ours for arranging a 3D scan of ‘Nacho’ for us. It was amazing to see the little eyes, nose and ears developing on a 3D image.

I just want to address the comments issue on my blog. There was some inappropriate chat occurring and we tried to shut that down. Anyone can comment now and I encourage it. I love reading the comments of fans!

In an interesting aside to F1 it appears Super Aguri are gone and have run into huge debt. I just wonder if that whole situation could have been handled better. They were essentially a vehicle for Takuma Sato to get a drive, but surely he could have got a paid drive somewhere. I know Sato is very fast and expect to see him bounce back somewhere in the future.

See you at Barbagallo.
