Big news

I can confirm two pieces of big news. The first is Mish and I are having a baby!

The second is that Team BOC are now sporting the Holden colours thanks to a deal with Walkinshaw Performance Racing.

As I said Mish is pregnant and is about 16 weeks along now with our baby due at the end of July. It’s an exciting time for us and I am very much looking forward to becoming a father.

We actually found out just before Phillip Island last year when Mish was quite ill with morning sickness and we told our families before Christmas.

Mish and I didn’t quite have the road trip holiday we had planned as the weather from Newcastle up turned nasty, so we ended up spending ten days at Coogee and spending New Years in Sydney (which was an experience). We thought we would be able to head out at around 5 and watch the fireworks from Mrs. Macquaries’ Chair.

How wrong we were – it was packed and we failed to see the fireworks, but the Sydney weather was great and we spent plenty of time on the beach during our holiday.

As for the other big news, the rumours are true. Team BOC is with Holden in 2008 and along with my new driving partner Cameron McConville I think we will have a good season.

Cam and I drove together in 2005 and despite having a lean season myself we were able to finish fourth at Bathurst. We seem to gel well at the enduros and  Cam and I are also good mates off the track and our wives are also friends, so it’s the kind of relationship that will be competitive, but also friendly.

Wally Storey has also joined the team as well, coming from Tasman Motorsport. He was also Cameron’s engineer when he raced with the Lansvale Racing Team a few year’s back and he will provide plenty of experience.

I am keeping the same team around me for the first time and look forward to the continuity. If I compared where we are  this year to last year I would have to say we are well ahead of the position we started last year.

Being with Holden should give us more of a chance to perform well and be competitive and I have already noticed the difference between the way things are run at Holden and Ford.

I haven’t hopped in one of the cars yet, but I will get that chance on the 12th of February at our test day at Winton. All the teams who test there will be there and those based at Queensland raceway will go around on the 14th before the season opener in Adelaide. .

I like this season’s calendar and the switch of the Bathurst lead up from Sandown to Phillip Island should be one which sees more cars finish on the lead lap and also be a bit more competitive.
